Instrumental music is rather tricky to nail if you have any kind of ambition with it. You can be lazy and write ”chilled out lo-fi music to chill out to bro” or you can try and convey complex emotions and ideas through instruments. The latter is obviously much more difficult, considering that you’re essentially saying things without uttering any word in the English (or other) language(s), so even attempting it deserves some sort of respect.

Cody Clegg‘s 21 minute EP attempts to be a musical journey about ”pushing through the trials life puts in front of each of us”* , a concept very close to any human who has ever had a struggle, moment of pain, anguish, or as little as a bad day. So what does the artist suggest as a resort to survive every day?

The answer is hope. Tomorrow is Moments away is this beautiful landscape of instruments that tell you that it’s all going to be OK, achieved by roaring riffs, beautiful orchestral melodies, and guitar solos that are very simple, but filled to the brim with emotion. Every single second of this album is extremely optimistic, confident and positive and yet manages to not feel cheesy at any moment.

At only 24 minutes, it does fail to feel like a fully fleshed out idea as it is over before it even begins. But as it is, it’s a collection of 5 very good tracks that can be played in conjunction or thrown into a playlist, but either way you’ll get a great time out of. The production is tight, the playing is very nice, and the sense of melody is on point. Cody Clegg is a name not to be slept on if you’re into instrumental music.
